Laurel Cottage Cafe & Bar sits quietly along Beechmont Road, blending the coziness of a countryside cottage with a carefully refreshed interior that invites lingering conversations. It’s a multi-purpose spot serving as a cafe, restaurant, and small lodging, making it a versatile local hub in Lower Beechmont.

This is a place to come for more than just the food or coffee; it lives in its setting amid shady native trees and lush garden spaces, which creates a relaxed backdrop that changes with the light through the day. Early mornings here feel gentle and unhurried, perfect for locals or visitors who appreciate a peaceful breakfast or a well-made coffee in a loving, human-scale environment.

The café’s charm comes down to its personal touches — from artwork and décor that echo the cottage’s heritage, to the warmth of the owners and staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Whether you’re popping in for a chai or settling in for a leisurely dinner, the atmosphere resists any rush. Dishes come in generous portions and the flavors reflect thoughtful cooking rather than showboating, supporting the feel of a comfortable neighbourhood spot rather than a formal restaurant.

Outdoors, the garden area becomes a quiet refuge where you can enjoy your meal or coffee surrounded by greenery, making it a great destination on mild days when the dappled shade adds to the relaxed vibe. This balance of indoor coziness and outdoor calm seats Laurel Cottage well between a local favourite for breakfast and a gentle evening dining option. The bar and sweet treats counter add subtle layers to the experience without overpowering the café’s easygoing character.

Visitors who appreciate small, locally minded businesses will find Laurel Cottage especially rewarding — it’s clear that community connection matters here. Drop by mid-morning on a weekend to soak in the leafy surroundings or come back for a quiet weekday dinner where the owner’s hospitality and attentive service help this spot stand apart in a region known more for its scenery than its food scene.

Came in for the early weekend opening hours, kept coming back for the charm. Delightful cafe in a very beautiful part of the world (shady trees galore). They’ve done very well with the revamp to create a lovely atmosphere to enjoy, especially the gardens area, and every staff member I have interacted with has been warm and welcoming. The sweeties bar is a lovely touch, and I always feel the need to shout out when a cafe has decent public toilets . As a coffee snob I was very happy to see the “right” brands of alternative milks in use (without the huge price tag), and look forward to Laurel Cottage being my cafe of choice in the area. Well worth the scenic drive/ride if you’re not local - I can’t believe they’re not a hot spot for riders yet! Especially being one of few around who open early. See you again soon

The food and service exceeded our expectations. We were visiting the area for the first time and had dinner there last Wednesday evening. The owner stayed open for our booking, later than she would have otherwise. The portions were all incredibly generous, and the cooking and flavours were better than expected. We would definitely recommend this quaint restaurant.

Called into this little treasure CAFE for a coffee in lower Beechmont, before going to Mt Tambourine. Unfortunately our bike wouldnt start on leaving The beautiful owner and staff were so welcoming and offered us the use of any facility while waiting for a tow truck. We ordered some fritters - delicious, and malted milkshakes, yummy and icy cold. The owner even offerred us a lift home (80 km) Should we get stuck We will be back to visit again someday to savour something else on the menu

Annie is very friendly & helpful. My breakfast wrap with a lovely fresh side salad with grapes & balsamic was delicious & filling. Very fair prices. I loved the old world feel of the setting in amongst lush gardens & tall trees. Plenty of dining both indoors & outside. Excellent potential here. Don't drive past, stop & enjoy what is on offer.

Randomly drove past this cafe and made a u-turn as it looked rather inviting with its fire pit and fairy lights. We went inside and met the lovely owner Annie. We ended up having an amazing dinner. I had the scotch fillet steak and my husband had the Hawaiian parmi. We are proper foodies and thought it was delicious!! I then had a delightful pavlova for dessert! Would 100% recommend and we will definitely be back!! Xx
